Fascinating...I'd have to think on these too, but my first impression is that you don't know who you lose until you look at who you engage. If you don't engage anyone, you've lost everyone. If you only engage some, you can look at those folks to see what is missing.

Also, I think that problems or challenges become assets or opportunities when they inspire people to act.

I agree with the above, the social networking influence only matters when it has real effect. Either via changing thought processes/introducing new ideas, or in effecting actual real-world results (ie. 10 more people showing up to a protest or rally than otherwise would have)

All-in-All the effects of social media are nigh impossible to ... Read Moreaccurately determine on any given project so therefore any important project almost has a defacto 'need' to be incorporated into it lest you miss out on that one key niche market who would have made a good project a Great project.

Thanks for posing the questions and good luck on committing to your blog.

I like the final question you pose and look at it simply; the "webbed" world is really just an opportunity to add value to the bonds formed in the "real" world.Venues create opportunities for bonds and bridges (in the parlance of social capital) to form. Social media offers an opportunity to strengthen/reinforce the linkages which tend to erode/weaken over time.

As to our individual obligations to help this happen in Alaska?... Read More

Step 1. Show up to things.
Step 2. Invite someone who wouldn't normally think of going.
Step 3. Repeat.

Thanks again for the questions.
